I remember growing up and watching his movies. Jim Carrey was the type of actor that would always do really crazy things to make you laugh. He loves bringing joy to people when they watch him act like a fool on screen. If I had to pin point the first time I really fell in love with his acting, I would have to say it was in the movie Liar Liar. I’ve watched that movie so many times that I can recite most of the movie by heart.
“It’s the claw!! Nothing can escape the claw!!…. You’ve the discovered the claw’s only weakness: subzero temperature!”
Then he make a fart noise and acts like his hand has suffered the most grueling death ever. I know that me typing it out does no justice in showing you how great of an actor he is. Liar Liar taught you so many things. It made you laugh and at the same time, Jim Carrey was able to draw you in on those sad moments when he realizes how much he let his son down. It really is a great movie. One of my favorites for sure. Now, I don’t want to ruin the movie so check out the trailer. Movie/tv show spoilers is probably my BIGGEST pet peeve!
There’s so many great movies that he’s done, it’s hard for me to sit here and describe each and every one of them. Movies like: The Mask; Bruce Almighty; The Grinch; Yes Man; The Truman Show; Eternal Sunshine of the Bottomless Mind; And those are just a few of his great movies. The man is a legend. I must admit that I have moments where I act just as silly as Jim Carrey does. I remember my mom telling me that when I was a little kid, I would have the tendency of throwing myself at the wall for no apparent reason. Usually my mom would realize that I’ve probably had too much chocolate for the day. I just loved being silly like that as a kid. I still find my self acting pretty goofy around people I’m most comfortable with. That’s just who I am. And that’s also one of the main reasons why I love Jim Carrey.
Another reason why I think Jim Carrey is such a great person that I admire, is because of his empathic person he is. I’ve seen many speeches of his where he talks about how he decided to chase his dreams and he inspires other people to do the same. In his commencement address at the 2014 MUM graduation, he gives a very eye opening speech about his father and how he took the more conservative job because it was safe and secure. He goes into detail about how his father ended up being let go from this secure job and Jim Carrey and his family having to do what ever it took to survive. The most memorable part of that speech was when Jim Carrey stated, “You can fail at what you don’t want so you might as well take the chance at doing what you love!” As the audience applauds tremendously at this statement, you can see Jim Carrey with the biggest smile. This really made Carrey ecstatic because in his words, “The effect you have on people is the most valuable currency there is.” Watch his entire speech here.
Jim Carrey is an amazing man. You will laugh and cry will watching some of his greatest performances on screen. His inspiration and kindness is something that will give you faith in believe that there are good people out there and that you should always follow your dreams. Jim Carrey is the perfect example of what happens when you do.
